Eliud Kipchoge Arrives in Vienna Ahead of INEOS 1:59 ChallengeBy Adam Kopet New details have emerged as the INEOS 1:59 Challenges approaches this week. Chief among them is a narrowing of event window to Oct. 12-14 with a goal date of Oct. 12. The original window had been eight days beginning Oct. 12. Eliud Kipchoge arrived in Vienna, the host location of the INEOS 1:59 Challenge, Tuesday as he prepares to make his second attempt at breaking two hours in the marathon. His previous attempt came in 2017 in Monza, Italy. He ran 2:00:25.
At this point, weather will be the guiding factor to determine when the exhibition race takes place. Dry and cool conditions will be needed. Additionally, 41 athletes from around the globe have been named to take part in the event as pacemakers for Kipchoge. Among that group are seven Americans: Matthew Centrowitz, Lopez Lomong, Paul Chelimo, Bernard Lagat, Shadrack Kipchirchir, Stanley Kebenei and Hillary Bor. Additionally, all three Ingebrigtsen brothers are set to take part in the pacemaking duties, as is 2016 NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships winner Patrick Tiernan of Australia. More news |
